Tracing Civilization: Africa to America with Browder at The Carver Community Cultural Center

SABIFF Partners with Eastside Cultural Visionaries To Exalt Africa’s Contributions to America History

SABIFF Press Release — The San Antonio Black International Film Festival (SABIFF), in partnership with Melaneyes Media, LLC, the Carver Community Cultural Center and the Carver Library presents renowned cultural historian, Egyptologist, and author, Anthony T. Browder in a special visit to San Antonio. A proclaimed memory specialist, Browder’s lecture entitled; “The African Contributions to Civilization from Africa to America” will take place on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Carver Community Cultural Center located at 226 N. Guest speaker, Anthony Browder is the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources based in Washington, DC. He has devoted 44-years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture, and has traveled extensively to Kemet (Egypt); a total of 65 times since 1980. Browder is the director of the ASA Restoration Project, and has funded the excavation and restoration of three 25th dynasty tombs of Kushite noblemen of the West Bank of Luxor, Egypt. The first African American to fund and coordinate an archeological dig in Egypt, he has led over 30 archeological missions there since 2009. Browder has authored or co-authored (with his daughter, Atlantis Tye) 14-publications which are used in classrooms around the world. His most recent appointment is a 4-year term member of the Governor’s Commission of Middle Eastern Affairs by the state of Maryland’s Governor, West Moore. Four decades of studying and teaching African history has confirmed his findings that ancient Africans were the architects of civilization and developed the rudiments of what has become the scientific, religious, and philosophical backbone of mankind. He will disseminate his knowledge in a comprehensive lecture here SA.

“At this critical juncture, amidst African American studies prohibition and Black history book bans; it is opulent to have a legend in our midst to share substantive knowledge with SA audiences about African history that goes far beyond what is allowed to be taught in school” said SABIFF founder, Ada M. Babineaux.

Browder’s 2-day visit will continue on April 6th, in conjunction with the Carver Library with the S.A. premiere screening of a documentary entitled: Global Assignment: The Life and Times of Dr. Runoko Rashidi. This special showcase will take place Saturday at 12:00 noon in the library’s community room. The late Dr. Rashidi was a former resident and educator in San Antonio. He passed away on a study tour in Egypt in 2021. As the film attests; he will be remembered as an acclaimed “scholar, historian and globetrotting raconteur.” Rashidi’s comrade and producer of the film, Anthony T. Browder will be available for post questions and answers.
