“Texas Political Drama Threatens Retired Teachers’ Benefits and Tax Cuts Amid Contested Election Results”
Hello SAISD Parents and San Antonio Community Members,
This past week, the Texas Democrats released a notice that our Governor Greg Abbott has not certified the election results from November 7th. This means that our retired teachers or COLA (cost of living adjustment) and the adjustment on property taxes, are in jeopardy. Senate Republican Bryan Hughes is challenging the fate of these new amendments as he introduced SB6- legislation that would change the requirements for trial in the contest of constitutional amendment election results. The bill didn’t go through the House nor was there any testimony from the public. It was just introduced on the Senate floor for a vote and passed by 23-1.
Now, the MAGA extremists have filed a lawsuit because they claim that the certification of Texas Secretary of State-sponsored voting machines was connected to the internet, which is not valid. So, based on false claims by the MAGA extremists, retired teachers, and other Texans are going to suffer. Why did they demand that these amendments be put on a ballot for a vote? Was it to prove they are in charge, as they now want to overturn the election results? These politicians are trying to take control of our constitutional rights. Now, they’re going to take away the money they promised to our retired teachers and deny the property tax cuts, which is wrong.
Yet in an email to Lt. Governor Patrick from Senator Bettencourt on November 7th, they were excited that after almost twenty years, the people of Texas had voted to pass the property tax reduction, and now the votes are invalid. Then, we can see that 84% of Texans voted to give our retired teachers a raise, which is well overdue because they haven’t had one in 29 years. Now, due to a bunch of childish MEGA Republicans who can’t get what they want, millions of people in Texas will continue to suffer financially possibly until March 2024 or 2025.
Lastly, parent’s please make sure that all of your kids are turning in missing work or studying for their finals. The last day of the grading period is the 15th but some teachers may want the work turned in earlier. The Holidays are coming up and kids will be out of school beginning on the 19th and all SAISD students will return on January 3, 2024.
