“Anti-Woke Law”

Choir of Hatred

The gates of the future have opened in teaching real history, not the falsehoods of white supremacist history. Every attempt by racists to subvert Black and Brown culture is done by twisting the true meanings of words and actions by people of color. The laws that racists have come up with to prevent the teaching of Black History and other truths are being defeated in federal court. Recently, in Florida, a state like Texas seething in white supremacy, a law that was called the “Anti-Woke Law” was struck down by a federal court but is awaiting further legal battles.

Florida was unable to uphold the “Stop-WOKE” regulation promoted by racist Gov. Ron DeSantis. A request from the DeSantis administration and higher education officials to block an injunction that found the law restricting how race can be taught in schools is unconstitutional and was denied by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. This means that state officials are currently unable to implement this white supremacist measure. Under DeSantis, authorities say the state will eventually win once the case is finally solved but many are saying his attempt to deny academic freedom and the right to free speech will go down in orange flames (his master the orange Trump). The “Stop W.O.K.E. Act” is basically a censorship law which restricts Florida educators and students from learning and talking about issues related to discrimination and inequalities in classrooms.

Even though the majority of these current white supremacist laws target public institutions in Republican-controlled red states, they are part of a larger racist scheme nationwide. In his most sickly regular song, House speaker, Kevin McCarthy promised to fix “woke training teaching in our schools,” while President Donald Trump has made the “issue” a need for his 2024 criminal campaign. Trump plans to cut government financing for any public institution program that incorporates “critical race theory, gender ideology, or other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on to our children.” University administrators will be cowered at the prospect of losing dollars in federal funding for a class that teaches the truth about injustices in a country founded by white supremacists. Not even at the private universities that are located in states that are blue states or cities will be able to escape the punishments of this fascist scheme to deny the real history of America. Trump and DeSantis, as well as the other loony Republican candidates, plan this racist strategy if Trump is elected president in 2024.

Another hateful singer, Texas governor Greg Abbott, has marked a bill that will defund Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and activities across advanced education programs in Texas. Under SB 17, DEI programs across state schools will close beginning in January 2024 and programs that supposedly look to advance specific ethnicities over others in view of race, identity and orientation will likewise be dismantled. The basis of such an attack is racially motivated and the choir of hatred is the same old song of bigotry. The “anti-woke” trash can has opened as Abbott seeks to parrot the Trump and DeSantis racist force of relentless, destructive, crushing, and insensitive hatred.

The end of DEI in Texas, and racist laws in Florida, seeks to hide the long history of white supremacy in denying people of color a right to a real education that exposes the ugly but true history of racism in America. Teachers and administrators are saying that they will continue to practice inclusivity and real education in other ways. The fight against the racist choir has only just begun.
