National Voting News Update

As we monitor the constantly changing “news cycle”, plenty of attention is being given to the vast number of recently passed changes, to laws governing voter registration, to the use of mail in ballots and those rules impacting voter participation and turnout. In some states, legislation has been passed that criminalizes the providing of information on procedures, by Election Department employees and limits some assistance, as provided by community based organizations.

Segments Often Overlooked

To strengthen the task of engaging additional supporters, we must consider seeking more of independent voters, persons that were previously incarcerated, more parents – especially those with school age children and those seeking to further their education. Members of these segments are often overlooked or the last to be advised about new opportunities that exist to aid in improving the quality of their lives through voting.

Community Voting Organizations

Where do we begin in our quest to make changes and to have that much needed positive impact in improving our communities? The Power of One, functions as a contributor towards increasing voter awareness of the issues and on the development of questions about holding candidates, for elected office, accountable to voters. BIVA represents another voice, in the community, focused on helping voters to address the shortcomings that arise from a lack of accountability.
