Article by: Tesha Leggett – Theta Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., received the National Chapter Service Star Award for the second time in a row by having a strong dedication and desire to give back and promote health and wellness within the communities of San Antonio.
The award was presented during the 67th Boulé and Educational Conference of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., held at the Le Méridien in Charlotte, N.C., July 10 – 15.
This award recognizes great achievement in performing service projects and confers the sorority’s most distinguished biennial honor for an active graduate chapter.
Theta Eta Chapter is a professional nursing organization which continues to promote nursing through community service in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention, leadership development, mentoring, recruitment, retention, and assisting in the education of the next generation of student nurses by providing scholarships.
The chapter was chartered on December 8, 1984, by 12 registered nurses. The chapter holds many events, their most notable is providing first aid at the annual A Taste of New Orleans and volunteers within the San Antonio area communities.
“Receiving this award continues to validate our presence within the community and has inspired us to continue to develop our programs to help even more people in the community,” said Venetia Cantrell, chapter community service chair.
According to Chapter President Sandra Evans, it’s such a rewarding feeling to be recognized nationally.
“We are a powerful and empowering group of nurses who only want to give back,” said Evans. “Who wouldn’t want to be a part of an organization who constantly strives for excellence, who is made up of strong nurses who let their voices be heard, and who only wants to educate and promote health within communities as well as themselves?”
The chapter plans to further their presence within the city and surrounding communities.
