Congratulations to Sam Houston High School Class of 2023! Meet the Valedictorian and Salutatorian Nicholas and Jose

The Sam Houston High School Graduation will take place on Monday, June 10 @ 8 p.m. at Alamo Stadium.

Meet the Sam Houston High School Class of 2023 Valedictorian Nicolas Castillo-Alonzo IV:

Nicolas will major in cyber security at the University of Texas at San Antonio

How have SAISD schools shaped you into the person you are today?

The Cyber P-TECH program at Sam Houston High School, an SAISD school, has helped me to achieve my career goals in cybersecurity by allowing me to obtain industry certifications and my Associates in Information Technology/Cybersecurity from St. Philip’s.

What is the greatest challenge you have overcome during your education so far and how did you overcome it?

Like many other students, the COVID-19 pandemic was a major challenge for me. We had to suddenly and abruptly change our learning style from a traditional hands-on environment to a completely remote one. I overcame this challenge with the support of my family, friends, and teachers that assisted me in adapting to the new environment.

As a leader of the class of 2023, what is your hope for the Class of 2023 as they move on to the next chapter of their lives?

I hope that my fellow classmates will accomplish their educational and career goals to build a bright future for themselves.

Meet the Sam Houston High School Class of 2023 Salutatorian Jose James Morris:

Jose will study Electrical Engineering at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla.

Who has been most influential to you in your education this far and why?

The most influential person in my education so far would have to be my band directors. They have pushed me to expect better from myself and to not be content with anything and keep pushing to improve myself not only in my music or education but in life. And no matter how good I may think I am at something, there is always room to learn and improve.

As a leader of the class of 2023, what is your hope for the Class of 2023 as they move on to the next chapter of their lives?

As a leader of the class of 2023, I want them to want better for themselves because they have the power to be great, they just have to put their minds to it. Anything is possible if they just get focused and stay on track. I hope they show the world what the Class of 2023 is made of.
