Acclaimed Filmmaker Presents Filmworks in San Antonio, Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Beaumont Race Riots and Honoring the Oldest Black Community
On Saturday, July 29th at 2:00 pm, the San Antonio Black International Film Festival (SABIFF) will feature its monthly showcase, presenting “Beaumont’s Black History – In Moving Pictures” at the Carver Library located at 3350 E. Commerce in San Antonio.
The Lamar University Department of Communication and Media has brought the rich history of Beaumont’s Black community to global audiences through compelling content produced by its faculty, students, staff, and alumni. Utilizing an award-winning historical fiction short film titled “The Example,” which draws inspiration from the 1943 Beaumont Race Riot, and the acclaimed documentary “They Will Talk About Us: The Charlton-Pollard Story,” shedding light on the oldest neighborhood in Beaumont, viewers now have unprecedented access to the untold stories of African Americans in Southeast Texas through the power of visual storytelling.
Gordon S. Williams, the content creator who served as the writer and producer for both projects, will be present at the event to provide valuable insights into the creative process behind the films. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the films’ inspirations and engage in discussions regarding the various themes explored in the works.
“I am extremely excited to travel to San Antonio to share these projects and support the mission of the San Antonio Black International Film Festival in nurturing the film community.” Gordon says in a press release last week.
