disABILITYsa PROVIDING SENSORY-FRIENDLY COVID-19 VACCINE CLINICS
disABILITYsa, a local nonprofit working to educate, advance and engage individuals living with disabilities, will offer sensory-friendly, accessible COVID-19 vaccine clinics through its Vax-abilitySTRONG program in July to reduce the accessibility challenges that many in the disabled community encounter.An estimated one in every seven individuals in San Antonio lives with a disability.
The first and second dose of the Moderna/Pfizer vaccines will be offered to individuals as young as three years old. Household members and caregivers may also be vaccinated at the same time. In collaboration with University Health System, Lela Pharmacy and the Texas Health Collaborative will be administering the vaccines to individuals. Numerous communication support specialists will be on-site, including Spanish and ASL interpretation, ABA therapists, low-vision support volunteers and sensory de-escalation spaces.
