12 YEAR OLD WINS “FREE TO BE…” MLK ART CONTEST

12 YEAR OLD WINS AWARD WINNING ART FOR MLK CONTEST

This year’s MLK celebration includes it’s annual art contest that is always open to all Bexar County residents.  The vision of the contest was for this art to truly be a visual representation of the 2022 Commemorative Theme: “Free to be…”  All of the submissions were original works of ‘art’ from our San Antonio neighbors.

The award winning art was unveiled as Cyaundra Chatman’s poster was a colorful masterpiece of individuality through faces inclusive of all dreams of those on Cyaundra’s artwork.  This artwork will make you ponder, maybe stop and think and see for yourself the most beautiful array of people we live amongst and who are “Free to be…”  Cyaundra’s work depicted the theme as none other.

Cyaundra Chatman’s is a 12-year-old student at Kitty Hawk middle school.  We hope Cyaundra’s award winning art shows how inclusive a photo would be if we all just spread love and acceptance.

Congratulations Cyaundra Chatman!  Cyaundra spoke to NEWS4 and stated, “What inspired me to make this artwork was the Martin Luther King speech I Have A Dream,” said Chatman. “When he talks about how everyone is created equally, and are all God’s children no matter the skin color, the religion or the nationality.”
