$1 MILLION APPROVED

San Antonio City Council agrees to spend $1,000,000.00 on H-E-B gift cards to incentivize people to get vaccinated

Last Thursday during the San Antonio City Council meeting the approval to buy $1 million dollars’ worth of H-E-B gift cards, each worth a hundred bucks a piece, is a hope to incentivize people to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

One Councilman, Perry, raised his issues with the transaction wondering what would happen if all of the gift cards were not used.  Councilman Perry stated during the session, “If we buy 10,000 cards and we only get a couple thousand people who get them, what happens to the cards then?  Do we get a reimbursement for them?  Can we get that money back from H-E-B?”  In the end Perry is hopeful to see if this will work and is willing to give it a try.

Gift cards would be purchased in October and must be used no later than June 30, 2024.  Funding for this initiative will be provided from the Covid-19 Immunization Round 4 grand budget.
