Trump’s Latest Altered Post Against the Obamas Adds to a Growing Pattern of Personal and Racially Charged Attacks
President Donald Trump shared a doctored image Sunday depicting former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama beside an Air Force One covered in graffiti, adding to a growing series of manipulated posts aimed at the former first couple.
The falsified image, posted to Trump’s Truth Social account, shows the Obamas smiling and waving from the top of an aircraft stairway. The familiar baby blue and white presidential plane has been digitally covered with graffiti, including Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan, “Yes We Can,” along with “Obama,” “BLM” and Arabic script reading “alhamdulillah,” a phrase commonly translated as “praise be to God” or “thank God.”
According to the Associated Press, the White House did not respond to a request for comment, and a spokeswoman for the Obamas also did not respond. The Associated Press described the image as falsified and noted that graffiti has historically been used in racially charged messaging to evoke crime and urban decline.
Neither the White House nor representatives for the Obamas had publicly responded to the image at the time of the initial reporting.
Latest Post Follows Earlier Racist Image of the Obamas
The doctored Air Force One image comes only months after Trump faced bipartisan condemnation over another social media post involving Barack and Michelle Obama.
In February, during the first week of Black History Month, Trump’s account shared an AI-manipulated video that depicted the Obamas as primates in a jungle. The post was eventually removed after criticism from civil rights leaders and Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Tim Scott. The White House later blamed a staffer for the post, while Trump declined to apologize.
The latest image continues a pattern of intensely personal attacks on Obama that stretches back years. Long before his presidency, Trump became one of the country’s most prominent promoters of the false “birther” conspiracy theory questioning whether Obama was born in the United States.
Trump also shared another manipulated image last month targeting the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. That image depicted the site surrounded by a wasteland with a large garbage bag placed on top of the building.
“The Obama Library ten years from now will be a ‘Mecca’ for those who hate America! President DJT,” Trump wrote.
Air Force One Has Become a Political Symbol Again
The choice of Air Force One carries additional context because Trump recently took his first flight aboard a newly designated presidential aircraft, a retrofitted Boeing 747-800 valued at roughly $400 million and gifted by Qatar.
The aircraft replaced the traditional light blue appearance associated with Air Force One with a navy belly and red and gold stripes reflecting Trump’s preferred design. The president made his maiden voyage on the plane last week.
Trump’s altered Obama post came one day after he delivered remarks on the National Mall during Freedom 250 celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The image had drawn no immediate public response from Barack or Michelle Obama at the time of publication. No Republican lawmakers had publicly addressed the post in the initial reporting.
