Game 6 Victory at the Frost Bank Center
The Spurs never trailed in the game, leading from tip to tail.
Despite only leading by seven points at halftime, it was a 20-0 third quarter run by the Silver and Black that put the Thunder to rest.
V-Dub responded to his pedestrian Game 5 performance to lead the Spurs with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks in 28 minutes of action. The young Frenchman went to work early with two quick 3’s to give the Spurs an early 9-2 lead. He finished 10-for-21 from the field and an impressive 4-for-9 from long range.
Enough can’t be said about the team defense the Spurs employed in the win.
The Spurs held the high octane Thunder to just 37% (35-for-94) from the field and a paltry 25% (10-for-40) from distance.
Spurs Had an Answer for SGA
More importantly the Spurs seemed to have the answer for SGA (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander), this year’s MVP. The Spurs held him down to a hard earned 15 points on 6-for-18 (33%) from the field and a goose egg from distance going 0-for-9. He played just 28 minutes and sat the majority of the final stanza as the game was out of reach.
Winner Takes All Affair
Game 7 will be a winner-take-all affair. For the Spurs the formula for success is a simple one: When Wembanyama is the most dominant player, the Spurs have won. When he isn’t, they’ve lost. Good hasn’t been good enough — in the three Spurs losses, he’s averaged 22.3 points on 43% shooting. In the three Spurs wins, he’s averaged 34 points on 51% shooting.
