Carry the Load and the National Cemetery Administration Will Bring Volunteers Together Sept. 12th
San Antonio residents can honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, by volunteering at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery during the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
The volunteer opportunity will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is free but required.
Honoring Lives Lost and Those Who Served
The event will commemorate the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks while recognizing the first responders and military service members who answered the call in the days that followed.
Volunteers will clean headstones and help beautify the cemetery grounds as a tribute to military members, veterans, first responders and their families.
Nationwide Day of Service
Carry The Load is coordinating the service initiative in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration.
Volunteers will gather at more than 120 participating national, state, tribal and local cemeteries across the country for projects intended to preserve the resting places of America’s veterans and ensure their sacrifices are remembered.
The San Antonio event offers individuals, families and community groups an opportunity to observe the anniversary through service while caring for the sacred grounds of Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
