Five Free Murals Coming to District 2 Small Businesses

The District 2 Community Canvas program in San Antonio will provide five small businesses with free custom indoor murals painted by Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez. Eligible businesses must be independently owned, located in District 2, and have space for a mural.

Five District 2 Businesses Will Receive Custom Murals at No Cost

A new initiative in District 2 is turning blank walls into storytelling spaces for local businesses.

The District 2 Council Office announced the launch of the Community Canvas Small Business Mural Program on April 6, offering five small businesses the opportunity to receive custom indoor murals at no cost.

The murals will be painted personally by Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, with all materials and labor covered through the program.

More Than Just a Mural

The initiative is designed to support small businesses while celebrating the culture and identity of District 2 neighborhoods.

Each selected business will collaborate directly with the councilmember to create a mural that reflects its story, values, and connection to the community.

“Our small businesses are the heart of District 2,” McKee-Rodriguez said. “They create jobs, serve as community gathering spaces, and reflect the culture and resilience of our neighborhoods. This initiative is about giving something back in a way that’s personal, creative, and rooted in pride for where we live.”

Who Can Apply

To qualify for the program, businesses must meet the following criteria:

• Be located within City Council District 2
• Operate from a brick-and-mortar location
• Be independently owned
• Have an indoor wall suitable for a mural
• Allow photography or video of the mural process
