Coco Gauff Joins World Team Tennis As Florida Flamingos Player-Owner

The Two-Time Grand Slam Champion is Adding Team Ownership to Her Résumé as World Team Tennis Prepares to Relaunch this December

Coco Gauff is expanding her footprint in professional tennis, joining World Team Tennis’ Florida Flamingos as both a player and equity owner ahead of the league’s return this December.

The 22-year-old tennis star will compete for the Florida franchise while also holding an ownership stake, part of World Team Tennis’ new structure that gives participating players equity in the league alongside base compensation and win bonuses.

Gauff is scheduled to play in the Flamingos’ home matches Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Projected matchups have her facing Victoria Mboko of Toronto North and Jessica Pegula of the New York Empire.

“Growing the sport through team competition and making it more accessible are two things I love, and WTT does both,” Gauff said in the league’s announcement. She added that playing in South Florida gives her an opportunity to compete in front of family and friends while experiencing a team format that is uncommon on the professional tennis circuit.

The move keeps Gauff close to her South Florida roots. She grew up in Delray Beach and has previously invested in tennis initiatives in the area, including helping refurbish the Pompey Park tennis courts through the USTA’s U.S. Open Legacy Initiative.

Gauff joins a Florida roster that also includes Tommy Paul, Learner Tien, Brandon Nakashima, Iva Jovic and Eva Lys.

World Team Tennis Returns With New Format

World Team Tennis, originally founded in 1974 by Billie Jean King and others, is relaunching with three teams: the Florida Flamingos, New York Empire and Toronto North.

Matches will feature men and women competing together in a condensed format with four singles sets followed by a mixed doubles Supertiebreaker. The league will operate during the ATP and WTA offseason.

The player-owner model adds a business component for Gauff, whose profile has continued to grow both on and off the court.
