Steakhouse Chain Says Allegations That Workers Deliberately Contaminated Food Served to Black Diners Are “Completely Unfounded”
Calls to boycott Texas Roadhouse spread across social media over the weekend after viral posts accused restaurant workers of deliberately tampering with food ordered by Black customers — allegations that remain unverified and that the steakhouse chain strongly denies.
The controversy began with videos and posts describing an alleged private Facebook group called “White and Proud,” where white restaurant workers were purportedly discussing spitting on food, licking their fingers before handling meals and contaminating rolls served to Black diners.
Texas Roadhouse and Logan’s Roadhouse were specifically named in the circulating claims. However, no named employee, restaurant location, customer complaint or confirmed food-tampering incident has publicly surfaced connecting either company to the alleged activity.
There also has been no independently verified evidence establishing the existence or reported membership of the Facebook group described in the posts.
Texas Roadhouse Denies Viral Claims
As the allegations spread across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X, users began calling on Black customers and their allies to stop eating at Texas Roadhouse.
Texas Roadhouse responded publicly, saying it does not tolerate discrimination, harassment or mistreatment and expects employees to treat customers with dignity and care.
The company later issued a more direct response, calling the accusations “completely unfounded.”
“We believe it to be completely unfounded and we take every accusation toward our brand seriously,” Texas Roadhouse said, adding that it was investigating the allegations.
The company said it remains committed to providing every guest with “respect, dignity, and the Legendary Service they deserve.”
User Who Amplified Claim Later Calls It a Hoax
Questions surrounding the allegation intensified after one X user who helped spread the story later reversed course, according to Complex.
“Upon further research, this is a hoax,” the user wrote Sunday, apologizing for circulating the allegation before researching it further.
That retraction does not independently prove that every piece of material circulating online was fabricated. But as of Monday, Aug. 24, no verified evidence had surfaced showing Texas Roadhouse employees were part of an organized effort to tamper with food served to Black customers.
Texas Roadhouse says its investigation is continuing.
Logan’s Roadhouse, which was also named in the original circulating claim, had not publicly addressed the allegation as of Monday.
