Visit Five Participating Legacy Businesses and Claim a Buy Local Prize Pack Before Sept. 7
Residents and visitors have a new way to explore San Antonio this summer while supporting some of the city’s most historic and beloved businesses.
The City of San Antonio’s Economic Development Department has launched the Buy Local Legacy Pass, a free digital scavenger hunt running July 20 through Sept. 7, 2026, encouraging participants to visit legacy businesses throughout the city, check in using their phones, and earn prizes along the way.

The San Antonio Observer is proud to be among the participating legacy businesses recognized in this citywide initiative celebrating the establishments that have helped shape San Antonio’s history and culture.
How the Buy Local Legacy Pass Works
Participation is completely free and doesn’t require downloading an app.
Anyone can sign up online and instantly receive the digital pass by text message and email. The pass can also be saved directly to a smartphone’s home screen for easy access.
As participants visit businesses featured on the pass, they simply check in using their phone’s GPS when they arrive. Every stop counts toward earning a Buy Local Prize Pack.

Visit Five Locations to Earn a Prize
After checking in at five participating legacy businesses, visitors become eligible to claim a Buy Local Prize Pack while supplies last.
The program is designed to encourage residents and tourists alike to discover longtime neighborhood favorites while supporting locally owned businesses that have helped define San Antonio for generations.
The self-guided experience allows participants to explore at their own pace throughout the summer while learning about the businesses that have become part of the city’s history.

As one of San Antonio’s longtime community institutions, The San Antonio Observer is honored to participate in the Buy Local Legacy Pass alongside other legacy establishments across the city.
The Buy Local Legacy Pass runs through Sept. 7, 2026, giving families and visitors several weeks to explore the city, while supporting local businesses. Points and prizes are awarded while supplies last and may be subject to availability. Participating businesses and rewards are subject to change.
