Spurs Ask Residents to Help Shape Downtown Arena District During Community Conversations Across San Antonio
As planning continues for the San Antonio Spurs’ proposed downtown arena and entertainment district, Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E) is inviting residents from across the city to take part in a series of public meetings that could help shape one of the largest development projects in San Antonio history.
Beginning July 13, SS&E will host 10 Community Conversations and Open House events throughout San Antonio. The meetings are designed to provide project updates, answer questions and gather public feedback on the proposed downtown arena district and the future home of the Spurs.

The sessions mark the next phase of planning following voter approval of public funding in November 2025 and recent progress toward identifying public partners and advancing project planning. According to SS&E, residents will have the opportunity to learn where the project stands, explore displays, meet members of the project team and participate in small-group discussions focused on the arena, surrounding district and public spaces.
More Than Just a New Arena
While much of the public discussion has centered on building a new home for the Spurs, the vision extends well beyond basketball.
The proposed development is expected to include a mixed-use entertainment district surrounding the arena, with plans that could include restaurants, retail, housing, hotels, entertainment venues and public gathering spaces designed to create a year-round destination in downtown San Antonio. City officials and the Spurs are also negotiating agreements covering financing, construction timelines, lease terms and surrounding development.
SS&E says the Community Conversations are intended to help residents share what they value, what they would like to experience in the district and how the project can best reflect San Antonio’s identity.

Why Do These Meetings Matter?
Whether someone supports the project, opposes it or is still undecided, these meetings provide an opportunity for residents to make their opinions part of the public conversation before major decisions are finalized.
Public engagement is often most meaningful when residents ask questions, raise concerns and suggest improvements while projects are still being planned, not after construction begins.
Documenting The Issues Now
Attending a Community Conversation also creates a documented record of the issues residents believe are important. Those comments become part of the engagement process and give the public something to reference as plans evolve. Community members can later compare the final project with the priorities discussed during these meetings and evaluate how public feedback was incorporated into future decisions.
For many residents, participation is not simply about attending another public meeting. It is an opportunity to help shape a project expected to influence downtown San Antonio for decades while encouraging transparency and accountability throughout the planning process.
What Residents Can Expect
Each Community Conversation will follow the same format:
- 6:30 p.m. – Open house, project displays, refreshments and an opportunity to meet members of the project team.
- 7 p.m. – Project presentation and update.
- 7:15 p.m. – Interactive activities and small-group discussions where residents can ask questions and provide feedback.
The meetings are free and open to the public, and residents may attend whichever location is most convenient.
