Protesters Confront Jan 6. Jake Lang Outside The BET Awards In Viral Video

Viral Video Shows Protesters Confronting Jake Lang Outside BET Awards

Jake Lang was met by protesters outside the BET Awards in Los Angeles this week, with video of the confrontation quickly spreading across social media and sparking a wave of reactions online.

Footage shared on Instagram shows demonstrators challenging Lang outside the awards show as tensions escalated near the event venue. During the exchange, protesters placed a cone-shaped hat on Lang’s head while shouting insults and confronting him over his presence outside one of Black entertainment’s biggest nights.

According to the Instagram video that first circulated the confrontation, the protest was meant to serve as a public demonstration against Lang’s appearance near the BET Awards.

Lang’s Comments Draw Immediate Backlash

The video also captures Lang responding to the crowd. In the footage, he can be heard telling people to “control your emotions” before making a broader remark about Black people that prompted immediate backlash from demonstrators nearby.

The exchange quickly devolved into profanity from multiple people involved, turning what began as a confrontation into a viral flashpoint.

As reported in the Instagram post documenting the incident, the video has since generated thousands of reactions online. Many users expressed support for the protesters, while others debated the heated nature of the confrontation and whether the response went too far.

The post’s caption also accused Lang of racism, fueling even more discussion in the comments.

Jake Lang’s Jan. 6 Ties Renew Public Scrutiny

Lang has remained a controversial public figure because of his connection to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Guardian previously reported that Lang was charged in connection with the Capitol attack and later pardoned by President Donald Trump before announcing a run for U.S. Senate in Florida.

His presence near the BET Awards brought renewed attention to his public profile and sparked broader debate beyond the confrontation itself. Many commenters questioned why Lang was outside the event in the first place, while others used the moment to revisit his political activity and past controversies.

Lang also drew headlines earlier this year after organizing an anti-Islam protest outside Gracie Mansion in New York City. ABC News reported that two improvised explosive devices were brought to the counterprotest and that federal authorities investigated the incident as ISIS-inspired terrorism.

The BET Awards, held June 28 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, was hosted by Druski and included major moments honoring Black music, legacy and culture, including tributes to Lauryn Hill and Teyana Taylor.

Online Debate Continues After BET Awards Confrontation

By Monday, the video had become part of a larger conversation about protest, public accountability and who shows up around Black cultural spaces.

Some social media users applauded the demonstrators for confronting Lang publicly. Others argued the exchange showed how quickly political tensions can spill into entertainment spaces, especially when a controversial figure appears near a major Black cultural event.

As of publication, Lang has not publicly responded to the viral protest or the criticism stemming from the incident.

For many online, the moment was less about a few seconds of shouting outside an awards show and more about what Lang’s presence represented. The BET Awards may have been built to celebrate Black excellence, but outside the venue, the viral confrontation became another reminder that the culture often has to defend the room before it can even enjoy the show.
