Mariah Carey Returns To ‘The Proud Family’ For Final Season Of Reboot

Mariah Carey Heads Back To ‘The Proud Family’

Mariah Carey is returning to The Proud Family universe more than two decades after her first appearance on the beloved animated series.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is set to guest star in the fourth and final season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, the Disney+ reboot of the original early-2000s series. Carey previously appeared as herself in a 2003 episode of The Proud Family, where her pet monkey, Francois, ends up in a mix-up at Trudy Proud’s veterinary clinic with Oscar Proud’s monkey, Mr. Chips.

The original series, created by Bruce W. Smith, aired from 2001 to 2005 and followed Penny Proud, a Los Angeles teenager navigating family, friendships and growing up with plenty of chaos around her.

From the beginning, The Proud Family was deeply tied to Black culture and entertainment. The original theme song was performed by Solange Knowles and Destiny’s Child, and the series featured appearances from stars including Alicia Keys, Kobe Bryant and Mos Def.

The reboot, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, premiered on Disney+ in 2022, bringing back much of the original cast. Kyla Pratt returned as Penny Proud, alongside Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Sugar Mama and Cedric the Entertainer as Bobby Proud.
