Sam Houston H.S. Names Rashard Colquitt as New Head Football Coach

Rashard Colquitt Will Take Over as Head Coach at Sam Houston High School Starting April 6

San Antonio ISD has named Rashard Colquitt as the new head football coach and athletic coordinator at Sam Houston High School, marking a new chapter for the Hurricanes following a district championship season.

Colquitt will officially begin his role on April 6, stepping into his first head coaching position with a program that is already coming off strong momentum.

Building a Program, Not Just a Team

Colquitt said his focus is long-term success and consistency, not just short-term wins.

He added that his style of play will emphasize speed and intensity on both sides of the ball.

Sam Houston football under his direction will feature “an up tempo, spread offense paired with a defense that plays fast and physical,” he said.

Experience Across Texas Programs

Colquitt brings more than a decade of coaching experience to San Antonio ISD. Most recently, he served as offensive coordinator at Aldine Nimitz High School in the Houston area, a role he held for the past four seasons.

His coaching career spans 12 years and includes stops at Coldspring-Oakhurst High School, Nacogdoches ISD, and Port Arthur ISD before joining Aldine Nimitz in 2022.

Looking Ahead to Community Impact

Beyond the field, Colquitt emphasized the importance of relationships within the school and surrounding community.

“I’m excited to be a part of the San Antonio ISD family,” Colquitt said. “I look forward to building relationships with everyone in the Sam Houston community, as well as the other coaches in our district.”

With a championship foundation already in place, Colquitt now steps in with the goal of sustaining and growing the Hurricanes’ success in the seasons ahead.
