Free Tree Recycling Will Provide Free Mulch

The City’s Solid Waste Management Department Is Offering Free Christmas Tree Recycling and Mulch in January

San Antonio residents have multiple opportunities to recycle their live Christmas trees for free as the holiday season wraps up. The City of San Antonio’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) will offer four drop-off locations for undecorated Christmas trees from January 3 through January 14.

Trees must be free of lights, stands, artificial snow, and decorations. The City also reminds residents that trees must be loose and unbagged when dropped off. Smaller live trees may alternatively be placed in green organic carts during residents’ regular weekly collection.

In mid-January, residents can also visit the Bitters Brush Recycling Center at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, where free mulch made from recycled Christmas trees will be available while supplies last. The City encourages residents to recycle their trees responsibly as part of ongoing sustainability and waste-reduction efforts.

For details on recycling locations, acceptable materials, or other collection services, residents can visit SARecycles.org.
