“Bigotry Will Get You Nowhere,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries Said After President Trump Posted A Video Targeting Latinos
After a failed White House meeting to prevent a government shutdown, President Donald Trump turned to social media to mock House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer with a racist AI video. The video depicted Jeffries wearing a sombrero and mustache while a fake AI voice of Schumer ranted about Democrats trying to buy support from undocumented immigrants, set against mariachi music.
Jeffries responded sharply: “Bigotry will get you nowhere. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare. We are NOT backing down.” Schumer added, “If you think your shutdown is a joke, it just proves what we all know: You can’t negotiate. You can only throw tantrums.”
Health Care at the Center of the Fight
At stake is the future of Affordable Care Act subsidies and Medicaid funding slashed by Republicans in what Trump called “One, Big, Beautiful Bill.” Democrats insist extending ACA subsidies—first created during the pandemic—is crucial to keep healthcare premiums affordable for millions of Americans.
Federal law already blocks undocumented immigrants from accessing ACA coverage, but Trump has leaned on that false narrative to justify his cuts. Democrats warn that without a deal, millions—especially Black Americans who disproportionately rely on public health programs—will lose coverage or face soaring costs.
Shutdown Deadline Approaches
The clock is ticking toward 12:01 a.m. Wednesday. If no agreement is reached, the government will shut down, leaving millions of families’ healthcare in jeopardy. Democrats are holding the line, while Trump has doubled down on attacks instead of negotiating, shifting the fight from policy into personal mockery.
