Trump Lashes Out on Truth Social
President Donald Trump erupted on Truth Social Wednesday, blasting his 2024 opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, as “DUMB AS A ROCK.” The attack stemmed from Harris’ repeated claim in her memoir 107 Days that the 2024 election was the closest of the 21st century.
“Everyone knows this is a lie,” Trump wrote, touting his Electoral College margin of 312–226, victories across all swing states, and a county-level sweep. He also insisted—without evidence—that “California’s Fake Mail In Ballots” were rigged but still claimed he won the popular vote by “millions.”
Harris’ Historic Popular Vote Haul
While Trump’s Electoral College victory was decisive, Harris still made history with over 75 million votes—the third highest total in U.S. presidential history. Only Trump and Joe Biden have earned more, with 81.2 million and 77.3 million respectively.
That margin still placed the 2024 contest closer than many modern races. Harris trailed Trump by just over 2.2 million votes, a far smaller gap than Biden’s 7 million-vote advantage in 2020 or Obama’s double-digit million leads in 2008 and 2012.
Trump’s Longstanding Obsession With Elections
Trump drew comparisons to the 2000 Bush-Gore standoff, calling Harris’ line about 2024 being the closest race “A TOTAL LIE.” Yet history shows 2000 was decided by just 537 votes in Florida, while 2024 was narrow by modern standards, though not the tightest.
The flare-up underscores Trump’s fixation on election narratives. From falsely insisting “millions” voted illegally for Hillary Clinton in 2016 to spreading baseless fraud claims after losing to Biden in 2020, Trump has consistently sought to reframe outcomes. His lies fueled the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, and though more than 1,500 rioters were charged, Trump pardoned all of them on his first day back in office in 2025.
