There’s a Fox in the White (Hen) House

The Fox, The Henhouse, and the Bear That Saves No One: Elon and President Trump’s First Week’s In

Never let the fox guard the henhouse, they tell you. Putting someone in a position of power or responsibility where their personal interests directly conflict with the duty they are supposed to uphold will no doubt lead to potential corruption or abuse. We don’t let arsonists run the fire department, we don’t let burglars work as locksmiths, and yet here we are, handing the keys of governance to the very people who will benefit from the actions they implement.

They wrote a book, The Mandate of Leadership, about their agenda, and now it’s being put into action—a version of democracy that seems to mirror that of corporate boardrooms, where power is hoarded, oversight is eliminated, and the highest bidder wins. We’re only a few weeks into the administration, and already, the never-ending developments from the Trump administration feel like a dystopian novel being read aloud in real-time.

Elon Musk: What The American Public Voted for

Elon Musk, a ‘special government employee,’ SpaceX and Tesla CEO, now leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), that is dedicated to shrinking government by any means necessary. His staff has been dispatched across several federal agencies ready to eliminate what remains. Millions of workers have been offered buyouts, while federal funding is frozen across key agencies, including the US Agency for International Development (USAID), all under the guise of “efficiency.”

Workers from DOGE developed step-by-step plans for carrying out President Donald Trump’s order to purge diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives from the federal government — and over the next six months intend to expand that campaign dramatically, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post. DOGE aims to target staffers who are not in DEI roles and employees who work in offices established by law to “ensure equal rights”, internal DOGE documents show.

Meanwhile, the State Department quietly abandoned its planned $400 million purchase of armored Tesla vehicles after public scrutiny exposed the deal buried in fiscal year 2025 contracts. Plus, Musk’s DOGE government-efficiency staff will be arriving at NASA to review payments at the US space agency.

Musk joined President Trump in the Oval Office last Tuesday and addressed conflict-of-interest concerns head-on. “The people voted for major government reform, and that’s what the people are going to get,” he said during a press conference. “That’s what democracy is all about.”

A Bear Saves Fish from Drowning

The narrative, ideals, and purpose that MAGA, the Trump administration, and Musk at DOGE boast and broadcast out to the public is breeding racism, political illiteracy, social apathy, and individualism.

Some will see through the manipulation, resisting because they understand that a bear can’t save a fish from drowning and reject Trump’s influence. Others will excuse the “nonsense,” either openly supporting the President or quietly justifying it under the pretense of economic reasons while ignoring the larger consequences.

As the government is being gutted from the inside out, Republicans claim it’s for the good of the American people, Democrats dispute it – but the outcome remains to be seen.

Until then, good night and good luck.
