2-Game Skid Back

The Spurs are on a two game skid following back-to-back losses to the Lakers and Mavericks.

Friday’s matchup with the Lakers was the opening game of Group Play in the Lakers quest to repeat as champions in the Emirates NBA Cup. The Lakers defeated the Spurs 120-115 at the Frost Bank Center.

Anthony Davis led all scorers with 40 points and 12 rebounds. LeBron James had a triple-double with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists. VDub led the Spurs with 28 points and 14 rebounds while rookie Stephon Castle chipped in 22 points. Chris Paul had a double-double in the contest with 11 points and 11 assists.

The Silver and Black were without VDub in Saturday’s 110-93 road loss to the Mavericks due to a bruised right knee, an injury he sustained in the loss to the Lakers the previous night. The Mavericks took advantage of the defending Rookie of the Year’s absence by outscoring the Spurs 46-22 in the paint through three quarters. The Mavericks opened up the game in the third quarter by besting the Sliver and Black 38-18 after leading by only five at halftime.

Kyrie Irving paced the Mavs with 22 points, 6 assists, and 8 rebounds. Zach Collins led all Spurs with 20 points.

The Spurs are now 6-8 and sit in the 12th spot in the Western Conference, just a game and a half behind Sacramento for the final play-in position. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

The Spurs begin a three-game homestand Tuesday against Oklahoma City in an NBA Cup game.
